Race 1

THING CALLED LOVE produced a fair debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. She was green in running, but finished her race off nicely. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

AMPERSAND may not have seen out the mile in his last start. It must be noted that William Iron Arm has come out and won again since. The son of Judpot will enjoy the drop to 1200m and he is one of the leading contenders.

CIRCLE OF GRACE was disappointing in his last start after an encouraging debut over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. He returns from a 22-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and if fit, he should give a good account of himself.

Race 2

DUENNA ran a good race when second over this distance at the Vaal last time. She stumbled leaving the start, challenged strongly but found one too good in the form of Law Of Success. The daughter of Fire Away looks to have ability and if getting away to a clean start, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

GOTCHA BUZZ showed good speed on debut over 1000m on this course, but was outrun late. The daughter of New Predator would have come on from the run and if seeing out the extra furlong, she should be hard to peg back.

MIZZEN SAIL has run two fair races to date, the latest of which was against male company. The daughter of Erupt is a progressive type and can improve to place in this field.

Race 3

THUNDERSTONE should have won his last start over 1400m at the Vaal. He was bumped leaving the start and reported to have cast a shoe in running. The son of Soft Falling Rain won a good race in his penultimate start over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, he should notch up his third career victory.

FOSTINOVO fought hard in his last start over this C&D, but found one too good in the form of Silver Tudor. He has won once and finished second three times from as many starts over this C&D. He is carded to race on 01 July 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

MOONSHININGTHROUGH finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

Race 4

SILVER HUNT showed some improvement in her last start over 1600m on the Standside course. She stayed on at the finish that day, but found one too good in the form of My Soul Mate. The daughter of Querari is progressive and will love the rise to 1800m. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she can shed her maiden tag in this field.

ANTANANARIVO‘S last three starts have been good. She stayed on at the finish over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course last time, but found one too good in the form of Miss Christmas. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

LADY DYNAMO finished 0.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

Race 5

IMPERSONATION moved up like a winner over 2000m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time, but found one too good in the form of Whatsupbuttacup. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance. The daughter of Master Of My Fate receives her sex allowance and should give the males a run for their money.

SWORD OF MERCY was his own worst enemy over 2000m at the Vaal last time as he over raced and hung in the final 400m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If S’manga Khumalo is able to switch him off early, he should be one of the leading contenders.

DESERT FOX‘S last start can be ignored as his saddle slipped in running. His two starts prior to that outing were good. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo which will help his chances.

Race 6

QUIET REBELLION ran a fair race over 2000m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished third three times from five starts over this distance. The daughter of Silvano takes a drop-in class and she should be too good for this field.

TURN THE PAGE showed improvement in her last start over 1600m on this course. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. She tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should pose a threat.

PASCHALS SAMORE is better than her recent form suggests. Two of her five career victories have come over this C&D. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 7

ELECTRIC GOLD ran a good race when third in the Grade 3 Jubilee Stakes last time. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the business end. The son of Flying The Flag won his only attempt on this course. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and in this field, he should notch up his fifth career victory.

MILLAHUE finished 0.25 lengths behind RAFFLES last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be competitive

RAFFLES was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He runs well for Gavin Lerena and the combination merit healthy respect.

Race 8

AFTER HOURS rallied late when winning his last start over 1200m at the Vaal. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Two of his six career victories have come on this course. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and merits healthy respect.

COMING IN HOT finished 2.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

FUNKY MUSIC ran a good race when second over 1400m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time. He returns to the Highveld and is likely to go forward from his awkward draw of eight. The 5yo gelding may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line
