Race 1

TEO TORRIATTE showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She stumbled leaving the start, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. The daughter of The United States is a progressive type and in this line-up, she should be the one to beat.

POTATO SALAD is an unraced daughter of Potala Palace from the St John Gray stable with capable workrider Samuel Mosia in the saddle. She is related to five-time winner Ronnie’s Candy. She does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this type of field. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

BEES AND HONEY was in need of her debut effort over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Erupt would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she can place.

Race 2

PRINCESS VRITTI is an unraced daughter of Flower Alley from the Stuart Pettigrew stable with Philasande Mxoli in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Schippers and Letaba. If not too green in running, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

UNIVERSAL LOVE was in need of her debut effort over this C&D. She would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive in this field.

WILKIES has finished second in her last two starts over 1000m. She should love the return to 1200m and with luck in running, she can shed her maiden tag. She is carded to race on 05 August 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 3

KING‘S RANSOM produced an eye-catching debut effort over this C&D. He took time to find his feet that day, but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. The son of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

ROYAL EDITION finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

JOHN WICK ran a fair race on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. The son of Pomodoro showed good pace that day, but showed signs of needing the run. He would have come on from the outing and should make the natural progression.

Race 4

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MOUNT ETNA from the Fanie Bronkhorst stable. She was slow into stride over 1450m last time, but stayed on at the business end. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1600m. In this line-up, the daughter of Erupt may be the one to side with.

SHE‘S A KLAWER showed some improvement in her last start over 1450m on the Classic course. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick and Raymond Danielson may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

VILLA SEMAYA finished 0.2 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 5

BREATH OF MAGIC was unlucky not to have won his last start as he was carried outwards at the 150m mark. The son of Willow Magic steps up to the mile and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can go one better.

BROTHERHOODOFMAGIC finished 0.35 lengths behind DIESEL’S SHADOW last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is carded to race on 05 August 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

DIESEL‘S SHADOW has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. The son of Diesel Jet is a progressive type and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 6

BOB‘S YOUR UNCLE is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that Celestial City has come out and won again since. His penultimate run when third over this distance was encouraging. The son of Royal Mo takes on stronger, but he carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and should be up to the task at hand.

SUPREME DANCE showed some signs of needing his comeback run last time. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. The 6yo gelding runs well for Gavin Lerena and the pair merit healthy respect.

OPERA GLASS raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, moved up well but was caught late by Kwazzi’s Lady. She has finished second three times from as many starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money

Race 7

NOTHINGELSEMATTERS has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. He steps back up to the 2000m and may be rewarded for consistency.

ROMEO‘S MAGIC ran on from last when winning his last start over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Two of his six career victories have come over this distance and he is a big threat.

YOURE MY SUNSHINE fought hard for his last victory in his stable debut over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 8

MINI COOP ran a good race when third in his last start over 1200m on this course. He lost a length at the start, but the manner in which he stayed on was encouraging. The son of Coup De Grace would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He takes a drop-in class and can return to winning ways.

SPRING WILL COME was an easy winner of his last start over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

SAGE KING found extra where it matters most to win his last start over 1600m on this course. He returns from a well-deserved 11-week break. If not in need of the run, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 9

ROBERT BURNS showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m at Turffontein. He set the pace that day, but was outrun late. It must be noted that Scallywag has come out and won since. He should have no issues with the drop to 1200m and can notch up his third-career victory

LIL MISS MONEYBAGS won a good race in her stable debut over 1000m at Turffontein. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of What A Winter races in the same class and can follow up.

FULLY LOADED finished 0.9 lengths behind LULU’S BOY last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is carded to race on 05 August 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored
