Race 1
MIA FIORE produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. She returns from a 20-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. This is a weak field and if not in need of the run, she can win.
CHILLI MARMALADE ran a fair race on debut at long odds over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace, but did not go on with the effort. She would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be one of the leading contenders.
SMELTING is still a maiden after 40 starts, but has some decent form lines to her name. The 10-week break would have done her the world of good and if fit, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
More than half of this field are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. WHITE HILLS was not disgraced when third against winners and male company last time. The daughter of Querari is a progressive type and back in Maiden Company, she should be the horse to beat.
KOMESANS PASSION produced a promising debut effort over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. She jumped outwards leaving the start, but the manner in which she stayed on was encouraging. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.
ELEGANT ICE is an unraced daughter of What A Winter from the Lucky Houdalakis yard with Craig Zackey in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including The Contractor and Elegant Royal. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note.
Race 3
All 11 runners in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. CALA MURETTA is a daughter of Gimmethegreenlight from the Ashley Fortune stable with Aldo Domeyer in the saddle. She is related to two-time winner Gimme’s Lassie. If not in need of the run, she should start her career on a positive note.
ZIYASHA hails from the Clinton Binda yard and he is a son of Rafeef. He is related to multiple winners including Team Gold and Dame Kelly. Keagan de Melo takes the ride and if not too green, he should be involved.
JERUSALEMA RAIN is the stable companion of the top choice and Ryan Munger is booked to ride. He is son of Captain Of All and is related to four-time winner Variety Breeze.
Race 4
WAR EMPRESS followed up her promising debut effort with an encouraging run over this distance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. The daughter of Vercingetorix was reported to be coughing in both efforts. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track and if not in need of the run, she should give the males a run for their money.
FULLIAUTOMATIX has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He is in a good space and may be hard to peg back.
IRON SKY finished 0.05 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 5
TURNTHEBEATAROUND showed very good improvement in her last start over 1600m at Turffontein. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. If repeating that effort from her good draw of two, she should go one better.
BROADLANDS is lightly raced with decent form lines to her credit. She finished second in her penultimate run over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SPRING OF ELIXIR is the stable companion of the second choice. She made the natural improvement when third over this C&D last time. Keagan de Melo takes the ride and she may have more to come.
Race 6
ABSOLUTE VALUE set his own fractions last time and found more where it matters most to hold all challengers at bay over 2000m. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can follow up.
FLAG BEARER set the pace over this C&D last time, tried hard but was touched off. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
GREAT AFFAIR has been taking on stronger company in recent outings. He finished 1 length behind AFRAAD last time. He is 6kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 7
KWAZZI‘S LADY is one of the better bets on today’s card. She has finished third in her last three starts. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the step up to the mile. Donald Geerthsen takes the 2.5kgs off her back and she can return to winning ways.
BURMESE TIARA set the pace over 2000m last time, but was caught late by Last Cheer. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. She is likely to have her own way in front once again and may be hard to peg back.
TINDER DRY had excuses in her last start over 2000m on the Turffontein Inside course. She has won twice from three starts over this C&D. From her good draw of two, she should earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 8
LIL MISS MONEYBAGS has been a tad disappointing in her last two starts, but is better than the efforts suggest. Her effort when winning over 1160m at Turffontein three runs ago, catches the eye. She carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and if putting her best foot forward, she can return to winning ways.
SILVER MENSA won a good race when shedding her maiden tag over this C&D last time. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Silvano takes on stronger, but she has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
BIG EYED GIRL is the stable companion of the second choice. She finished 0.75 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 9
IN THE ETHER ran a good race when third in her last start against male company. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. She takes a drop in class and back against her own sex, she should notch up her fourth career victory.
BEADED GOWN finished 1 length behind MERCER GIRL last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
MERCER GIRL has shown good signs of a form return in her last two starts. She is in a good space and should have a say in the outcome of this contest
