Race 1

Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. VIVA DE JANEIRO produced a promising debut effort over 1000m at Turffontein, five weeks ago. He was slow into stride, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The son of Oratorio would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

PONTIAC has produced two good second-place finishes to date. He stayed on over 1160m at Turffontein last time, but found one too good in the form of Cornwall. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

ARCHIMIDES is better than his last start over 1400m at Turffontein. The 16-week break may have done him the world of good. If finding the form of his first two runs, he should have a say.

Race 2

SPIRIT PRINCESS stayed on at the finish over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Platina Princess. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. Piere Strydom

E FLOWER has shown improvement in each of her outings to date. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung and had to be steadied at the 100m mark. The daughter of Crusade is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. From her good draw of two, she should be one of the leading contenders.

MIA FIORE was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Captain Of All tries the 1450m and if finding the form of her first two career outings, she should be competitive.

Race 3

TURNTHEBEATAROUND is better than her last start in a work riders contest. Her penultimate run when second over 1600m at Turffontein, under Nathan Klink was encouraging. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 2000m. The daughter of Twice Over is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from the widest draw and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.

BROADLANDS has been costly to follow in recent outings. She was slow into stride over 1600m last time and ran on from last to finish second behind Radu. She has finished second once and third twice from four starts on this course. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

QUEEN BRITANNA is better than her last start against winners. She has finished third three times from four starts over this C&D. Piere Strydom takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 4

MANZ KNIGHT raced wide around the turn and into the straight over 1800m last time. However, the manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. His penultimate run when fifth against winners was encouraging. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has cracked a good draw of two and with a bit of luck, he can shed his maiden tag.

QUANTIFIER ran a good race when second over this distance at Turffontein last time. It must be noted that Positive Attitude has come out and won again since. He jumps from a good draw of three and merits obvious inclusion.

PUERTO PLATA set the pace over 1800m last time, but was caught late by Hazlo Grande. There is a question mark as to whether he stays 2000m on his penultimate run, but he has plenty of scope and cannot be ignored.

Race 5

LUTHULI was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over 1800m on this course. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and drew clear with ease. The son of Crusade finished third in his only attempt over this distance. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination can follow up.

ROYAL MAZARIN ran a good race when second over this distance at Turffontein last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and from pole position, he should pose a massive threat.

JET DYNASTY stayed on when third over this distance last time. He finished 1 length behind the second choice that day. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 6

ANGEL’S WISH was her own worst enemy over this C&D last time, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Ideal World takes a drop in class and is back against her own sex. Kaidan Brewer retains the ride and if he is able to switch her off early, she can notch up her third career victory.

GO FLICHITY was a tad disappointing over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. She finished 2 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

BARMAID moved up like a winner at the 200m mark last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Prime Example. She received a two-pound penalty for that effort. The daughter of Jackson is back against her own sex today and if confirming her recent improvement, she should have a say.

Race 7

Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. TSAR BOMBA is lightly raced with good form lines to his credit. He showed good speed over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course last time, but was outrun late by Texas Red. The son of Gimmethegreenlight won his only attempt over this C&D. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and he can notch up his third career victory.

FAST LOVE ran a good race when second over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. It must be noted that Lord William has come out and won again since. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

BEY SUYAY ran a fair race in his last start over 1600m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. On his best form shown, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 8

MILLAHUE stayed on when fourth in his stable debut over 1160m at Turffontein. It must be noted that Aussenkehr has come out and won again since. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. He will enjoy the rise in distance and from his good draw of three, he can return to winning ways.

TIZONA was an easy winner in his stable debut over this C&D. He found plenty of betting support that day. He has found a new lease on life on the Highveld and can follow up. He is carded to race on 22 April 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

QUANDARY ran on well when second over 1400m last time. It must be noted that Mescal has come out and won again since. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
