Race 1

FRENCH DUCHESS produced an encouraging debut effort over this distance on the Classic course. She should have finished closer to the winner that day as she received a bump at the 200m mark and had to be steadied. The daughter of Trippi would have gained from the experience. With a bit of luck in running, she should give the males a run for their money.

VIVACIOUS VICKY showed some improvement when third in his last start over this distance on the Classic course. He raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.

STORMY CHOICE is better than her last start as she received a bump leaving the start and was reported to be not striding out. Her penultimate run when third over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course was encouraging. She is back in Maiden Company and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

NO FILTER showed good pace over 1200m on this course last time, but was outrun late by Dolcezza. The daughter of Canford Cliffs will enjoy the drop to 1000m and if keeping on a straight line, she should be the one to beat in this line-up.

WAITFORGREENLIGHT is better than her last start as she raced wide around the turn. Her penultimate run when second over this distance on the Classic course was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is back against her own sex today and she should be competitive.

CONTRA FISCUM is an unraced daughter of Potala Palace from the Mike and Adam Azzie stable with JP van der Merwe in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Hatta and Set The Standard. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.

Race 3

LAW OF SUCCESS ran a good race when second in her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. Despite jumping inwards when leaving the start, she showed good pace and fought hard all the way to the line. The combination of Paul Matchett and Philasande Mxoli are in fine form. The daughter of Wylie Hall can go one better.

GREAT BARRIER has produced two fair runs to date. She showed good speed in her last start over this C&D, but was reported to have cast a shoe in running. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track and if not in need of the run, she should pose a massive threat.

DUENNA is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. Her debut effort when third over 1000m on the Classic course was encouraging. Keagan de Melo takes the ride and she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 4

AND ACTION produced a promising debut effort over 1160m at Turffontein. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The son of Fire Away would have gained from the experience. He meets the right field today and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

SCAMPTON ran a fair race on debut over 1000m on the Classic course. He received a bump leaving the start that day, but finished his race off nicely. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He would have come on from the run and should make the natural progression.

KLITSGRAS was a tad disappointing in a work riders contest last time. His debut effort when third over 1160m at Turffontein was fair. The son of Potala Palace has plenty of scope and must be included in all bets.

Race 5

AFTER HOURS ran a fair race when fourth against stronger over 1450m on the Classic course last time. He won a game race in his penultimate start over this distance on the Classic course. The 5yo gelding drops back in class and with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle, he can notch up his sixth career victory.

RAMCHANDANI ROAD’S last two starts have been fair. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung from the 600m mark. He takes a drop in class and if keeping on a straight line, he should pose a massive threat.

SAMOA is a mare taking on the males. She was running on when second over 1160m at Turffontein last time. Two of her six career victories have come over this C&D. She is in a good space and should run another honest race.

Race 6

THUNDERSTONE was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. The manner in which he quickened up and rallied late was eye-catching. The son of Soft Falling Rain will love the step up to 1400m and if suited to the straight course, he should follow up.

NOW I GOT YOU showed signs of needing his comeback run over 1160m at Turffontein last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. The son of Admiral Kitten will strip much fitter and he must be included in all bets.

ROCK THE FOX returns from a 17-week break which may have done her the world of good. She finished second in her only attempt on this course. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is the best-weighted runner in this contest and if not in need of the run, she should be right there.

Race 7

VEGAS HI RISE finished 0.75 lengths behind SMITH AND WESSON last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He won his only attempt over this C&D. If not too far out of his ground at the halfway mark, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

TROMPIE finished 1.75 lengths behind SMITH AND WESSON last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should turn the form around. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

SMITH AND WESSON is a winner of his last two starts. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in his last start has come out and won since. He has gone up in the ratings, but is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 8

TOTAL SURRENDER won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over 1400m on this course, at the second time of asking. He won a lot easier than the official margin suggests. The son of Flower Alley will love the step up to 1800m. He does take on stronger, but looks to have ability and may be up to the task at hand.

NOTHINGELSEMATTERS stayed on when second over 1450m on the Classic course last time. He has won once and finished third once from three starts over this distance. The son of Elusive Fort will strip a much fitter horse today and he will be staying on at the business end.

LITTLE PRINCE ran a fair race when third over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He jumps from pole position and must be included in all bets
