Race 1

Seven of the eleven runners in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. CAPTAIN WARA produced a decent debut effort over 1100m on this course. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He would have come on from the run and unless one of the first timers have ability, he should be the horse to beat. He is carded to race on 04 May 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

MVELELO is an unraced son of What A Winter from the Mike de Kock stable with Keagan de Melo in the saddle. He does not need to be a stable superstar to win a race of this nature.

PEAK PREDATOR hails from the Lucky Houdalakis yard and he is a son of Var. He is related to multiple winners including The Merry Widow and Hollywoodbound. Craig Zackey takes the ride and if not too green, he should start his career on a positive note.

Race 2

FUTUREWOLFF has good consistent form lines to his credit. He won a good race in his penultimate start over this distance on the Turffontein Standside course. Piere Strydom takes the ride and if able to switch him off early, he should notch up his third career victory.

JET DYNASTY ran on from last when winning his last start over this distance on the Classic course. He finished 2 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights which is not enough for the tables to be turned.

MONSIEUR CHEVELLE raced from a handy position over 3000m last time, but was outrun late by Positive Attitude. He will enjoy the drop in distance and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 3

MANZ KNIGHT lost a length leaving the start over 2000m last time, but stayed on to finish third. He has finished second twice and fourth once from as many starts on this course. He has no issues with the 1800m and if jumping on terms, he can shed his maiden tag.

EVERY CLOUD showed massive improvement when second over 1500m on this course last time. He raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Carnelo. The son of Pathfork is bred to enjoy the rise to 1800m and he is one of the leading contenders.

IMPRESSION ran a good race over this C&D in a work riders contest last time. She has cracked a good draw of two and if repeating that effort, she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 4

IDABELLE has shown good improvement in her last two starts over the mile on the Turffontein Inside course. The daughter of The United States will love the step up to 1800m. She is a progressive type and can go one better.

ANTANANARIVO showed good improvement in her last start over 2000m on the Classic course. She raced from a handy position, but was caught late by Keep The Fort. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

SPIRIT PRINCESS has finished second in her last two starts over 1450m. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1800m. She is having her peak run and is one of the leading contenders.

Race 5

ABSOLUTE VALUE set the pace over 3200m last time, but was outrun late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

ANGEL’S WISH produced a strong finish to win her last start over this distance on the Classic course. She is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money.

PACIFIC EXPRESS finished 2.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 6

TROMPIE’S last two starts in feature races have been fair. He showed good pace in both those outings, but did not go on with the effort. He has won twice from three starts over this distance. Keagan de Melo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

MOVER AND SHAKER was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over this distance on the Classic course. He finished 1 length behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

SMITH AND WESSON ran on well when winning his last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. He has won twice, finished second twice and third twice from eleven starts over this trip. He is in a good space and can follow up.

Race 7

MINI COOP has decent recent form lines to his name. He was slow into stride in this class last time, but stayed on at the finish. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance. Keagan de Melo does duty and may be rewarded for consistency.

BRONCO BLITZ was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over this distance at Turffontein. Piere Strydom takes the ride on his return and if fit, he should be competitive.

STORMY SEAS should have finished closer last time as he jumped a patch at the 500m mark. All four career victories have come over this distance and he should earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 8

SILENT WAR ran a very good race in his local debut over 1100m at Turffontein. He jumped inwards leaving the start, but the manner in which he finished off his race caught the eye. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has won twice from five starts over this distance. He will strip a much fitter horse today and can go one better.

CALIBRE CREST won a good race in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The tongue-tie has done the trick and he merits healthy respect.

STORMY WINTER got up late when winning his last start over this C&D. He gets the services of 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa which will help his cause. If keeping on a straight line, he should be competitive.

Race 9

This is an open Merit Rated 68 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is AFTER HOURS from the St John Gray stable. He was not disgraced when fourth over 1450m on the Classic course last time. He won a good race in his penultimate outing over 1200m. He takes a drop-in class and can notch up his sixth career victory.

IRONTAIL has fair recent form lines to his credit. He won his only attempt over this C&D. If not in need of the run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

WAQAAS showed some signs of a form return in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The pacifiers seem to have done the trick and he should run into the money.

Race 10

TIMBAVATI RIVER stayed on when under 2 lengths behind Axel Collins over 1000m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He has won once and finished third twice from seven starts on this course. He continues to drop in the ratings and can feature.

CONKER THE WORLD has finished fourth in her last two starts. She is likely to be outpaced in the early stages and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

SPRING WILL COME followed up his maiden victory with a fair fifth-place finish over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course. In this type of field, he can earn another cheque for his patrons
