BettingDiaryWhistling Straits in Wisconsin, USA is the venue for the Ryder Cup which takes place from the 24th to the 26th of September. We take a look at this great golfing showpiece from a betting angle.

It has been 3 years since the last Ryder Cup with the 2020 edition postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Europe have had the better of things in the last few years winning 7 of the last 9, but the USA have won 2 of the last 3 they played at home.

Whistling Straits is a par 72 layout and plays plenty long off the tee so the big hitters will certainly have an advantage and this should play into the home team’s hands as will the crowds.

FORMAT

Day 1 and Day 2 will consist of 4 ball matches in the morning and foursome matches in the afternoon with 4 players from each team sitting out each session. 4 balls is a traditional better ball format where each player hits his own ball whereas foursome sees players alternate shots and this is a discipline that the USA have tended to dominate.

On Sunday all 12 players will take part in the singles.

Europe 21/10

Tie 12/1

SUGGESTED BET: USA win at 4/7

There has been plenty of talk about whether this USA team will be able to gel in the Ryder Cup format especially given the well-publicised feud between Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau.

The side is absolutely packed with talent though and man for man have the beating of this European team. We have seen them come unstuck in the past when favourites, but the reality is that at home the USA are always tough to beat and I can’t look past a comfortable US victory here.

The price is a bit shorter than I normally would be taking on, but what makes it more attractive is the promotion at World Sports Betting, that if you back your team to win before Day 1 and they win by more than 4, then you get double your money back in the form of free bets.

The United States last 2 victories at home in 2016 and 2008 came by 6 and 5 points respectively so it is certainly not unrealistic to think of a winning margin of more than 4 points.

Suggested Bet: Top Team Point Scorer Europe, Rory Mcilroy at 11/2

Mcilroy has taken 13 points from 24 matches in the Ryder Cup and I just have a feeling that this year McIlroy is going to lead from the front and in a team which looks a bit top heavy. I fancy him at the current price although I have the utmost respect for Jon Rahm who is trading as the 33/10 favourite.

Suggested Bet: Top USA Point Scorer, Patrick Cantlay at 13/2

Cantlay is in excellent form and he is just the sort of solid player I believe his Captain will be looking as a “Go To” man over the course of the weekend. There is so much quality in the team so he has plenty of competition, but I expect him to get a start early and if he performs well he should retain his spot and hopefully play all 5 matches.

Suggested Bet: Overall Points Score USA 17, Europe 11 at 16/1

A speculative play here, but as noted I do expect the USA to win this comfortably and at 16/1 I certainly don’t have to put a big bet down on this one.
