The FedEx St Jude Classic takes place at the TPC Southwind Course in Memphis Tennessee and after this week only 70 players will advance to the penultimate round of the FedEx Cup. This event is the first of three playoff events and 125 players qualified although a few of them are not going to be starting this week.
TPC Southwind plays to a par 70 and while driving accuracy is not the be-all and end-all, it is not the sort of course where you can be too wayward off the tee and finding the fairways is a definite advantage. Just as important is the approach shot into the green and history suggests the winner will finish in the Top 10 in Greens in Regulation stats.
Rory Mcilroy tops the betting boards at 11/1 with Scottie Scheffler 14/1, Cameron Smith and Patrick Cantlay both 18/1. Christiaan Bezuidenhout (100/1) and Dylan Frittelli (300/1) are the only 2 South Africans in the field and they are trading at 8/15 and 14/10 to be top South African – Click here for that market.

Suggested Bets:
Matthew Fitzpatrick each way at 20/1
Since winning the US Open, Fitzpatrick has had a Top 10 and a Top 25 finish with the latter coming in his last start, the Open Championship. He was disappointing in this event last year finishing outside the Top 50, but prior to that had a 6th and a 4th place finish to his credit.
Fitzpatrick has a game that is perfect for this course and his accurate iron shots should stand him in good stead.
Billy Horschel each way at 50/1
The former FedEx Cup Champion is in good nick and follows Top 25 at the Open Championship with 27th place finish last week. He also had a victory 6 starts back and he has been very consistent at this course over the years with a Top 20 last year and 5 Top 10’s in his last 8 starts at the course.
Sungjae Im each way at 33/1
Im delivered each way returns for us last week when he finished 2nd although I was disappointed he didn’t bring home the win bet. That was his 2nd successive runner-up finish and I am expecting big improvement of what is a pretty mediocre course form in his first 2 starts with a 35th place and a 46th place finish.
Im has the perfect game for TPC Southwind and given his current form I am expecting him to go close.
Russell Henley each way at 66/1
Henley is in good form and has had a Top 10 and a Top 5 finish in his last 2 starts. He hasn’t played on this track for a good few years, but did have a Top 10 finish here in 2016 and that is enough for him to complete my staking plan.
