Race 1
NETTLETON should have finished closer in her last start as she was held up for a run at the 200m mark. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she should have no issues with the rise to 1400m. The daughter of What A Winter takes a drop in class and from her good draw of four, she may be the one to side with.
LOCK AND KEY was ultra-impressive when winning on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The daughter of Master Of My Fate takes on stronger, but she could be anything. Richard Fourie retains the ride which is encouraging.
VIHAAN’S QUEEN was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1600m on this course. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back which will assist her cause. With luck in running, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 2
THE GREY KING’S last start in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 can be ignored as the saddle was reported to have slipped in running. His previous two starts on this course were encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix is unbeaten from two starts over this distance. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and he may be the one to beat.
QUEUE WING ran on when third over 1600m last time. He has won twice and finished second twice from as many starts on this course. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should pose a massive threat.
PRINCEOFGREEN was not disgraced when fourth in the Non-Black Type Egoli Mile last time. He ran on well at the finish that day and the form of the race has been franked. He jumps from pole position and if all went well with his travels, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
PONTE PIETRA was his own worst enemy in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial last time as he over raced in the early stages. However, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. His penultimate run when fourth in the Grade 2 WSB 1900 catches the eye. Sean Veale is booked to ride and if switching off early, he can notch up his fifth-career victory.
CRIMSON KING fought hard for his last victory in the Listed TAB Gold Bowl. The 6yo gelding won this race last year. He will be coming into this race fresh after 10 weeks off the track and he can defend his title.
CAPE EAGLE was his own worst enemy in the Grade 3 tabGOLD Derby as he over raced in the early stages. He has won three times, finished second once and third three times from ten starts on this course. He should be ideally suited to 2200m and merits healthy respect.
Race 4
RAISEAHALLELUJAH is one of the better bets on the card. He lost a length leaving the start over 2400m at Turffontein last time and got up where it matters most. He has won once and finished second four times from nine starts on this course. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie keeps faith in the ride and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
NEBRAAS showed signs of a form return in the Listed Lonsdale Stirrup Cup last time. He finished 3.5 lengths behind DOWN TO BUSINESS that day. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
DOWN TO BUSINESS ran on powerfully when winning the Listed Lonsdale Stirrup Cup last time. The son of Wylie Hall should have no issues with the rise to 3000m. The obvious concern is the widest draw of 16 but Tristan Godden knows him well and he should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 5
GIMMIE’S COUNTESS from the Dean Kannemeyer stable is the best bet on the programme. She was unlucky not to have won the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time as she was baulked for a run between the 350m mark and 100m mark. Her mother, Real Princess won twice over 1400m. She has had experience of racing around the turn which will stand her in good stead. Craig Zackey retains the ride and if getting a clear run in the straight, she should take a power of beating.
QUID PRO QUO is a winner of her last three starts, the latest of which was in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship. She was given a peach of a ride by S’manga Khumalo that day. The daughter of Lance jumps from pole position and if not too green around the turn, she should fight out the finish.
LITTLE BALLERINA backed up odds-on status when winning her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. Her penultimate run when winning the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery was eye-catching. She is drawn wide but has plenty of ability and cannot be ignored.
Race 6
GREAT PLAINS was super-impressive when winning the Listed Hollywoodbets Sharks Gatecrasher Stakes last time. He jumped outwards leaving the starting stalls, was settled at the rear of the field and ran on powerfully. The wide draw should not pose a concern as Piere Strydom is likely to adopt the same tactics. The son of Danon Platina has a good turn of foot and he is the horse to beat.
PROCEED won a good race in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he should have no issues with the rise to 1400m. Richard Fourie knows him well and with luck in running, he should go close to winning.
COSMIC SPEED finished 0.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. He should have finished closer that day as he hung inwards in the closing stages. His good draw of two is a big plus and he is a solid back-up for the Sean Tarry stable.
Race 7
This is an exciting renewal of the 128th Hollywoodbets Durban July. ORIENTAL CHARM won a good race in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial last time. JP van der Merwe sent him to the front and he kept finding to hold SHOEMAKER at bay. The son of Vercingetorix finished 0.3 lengths behind FUTURE SWING in the Grade 2 WSB 1900 in his penultimate run. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has had the perfect preparation for this race and may be hard to catch at the finish.
GREEN WITH ENVY almost cost himself winning the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 as he hung inwards in the final 300m. It is no easy task to carry 56kgs as a three-year-old in this contest, but he has the class to win this race. With luck in running, he should be mowing down the frontrunners.
SEE IT AGAIN produced a good comeback run when third in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He finished second in this race last year and has a very good chance of going one better.
Race 8
There is likely to be a fast pace in this race which should play into the hands of SILVER SANCTUARY. She won a game race in the Grade 1 tabGOLD Woolavington 2000 last time. The daughter of Silvano has won twice and finished second twice from five starts over this distance. Jockey JP van der Merwe knows her well and she will be finishing off her race strongly.
RASCOVA won a good race in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas to get the better of DOUBLE GRAND SLAM. Jockey Craig Zackey is likely to use her early gate speed to get across from her wide draw and she should be the one to catch turning for home.
DOUBLE GRAND SLAM gave Winning Form-sponsored Jockey Richard Fourie his 335th winner for the season in the Grade 2 East Coast Radio Tibouchina Stakes. The only concern is that her favourite distance is 1400m. However, she is a classy filly and from her good draw of three, she merits healthy respect.
Race 9
MELECH from the Roy Magner stable is the value play on the day. He was carried outwards when leaving the start in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time but the manner in which he finished off his race, was eye-catching. The son of William Longsword has won twice from three starts over this distance. On paper, there is a lot of speed which will suit him perfectly. The booking of Raymond Danielson is a big plus and the combination will be mowing down the frontrunners.
CRUISE CONTROL showed good speed before getting caught late in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. That was his first start for the Duncan Howells stable. Sean Veale would have learnt a lot from that run and the pair may be hard to peg back.
AT MY COMMAND ran on too late when second in the race referred to above. His wide draw is an obvious concern and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be competitive.
Race 10
LADY HEIST finished 0.05 lengths behind GET IMPRESSED last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She finished 0.05 lengths behind THAT’S MY BABY in her penultimate run and is 1.5kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough to turn the form around. The daughter of Time Thief is in a very good space and from her handy draw of two, she can notch up her sixth-career victory.
GET IMPRESSED got up where it matters most to win his last start over this C&D. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. If Richard Fourie is able to switch him off early, he should pose a massive threat.
NARINA TROGON stayed on when third in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial last time. His wide draw is an obvious concern but with luck in running, he would not be a shock winner.
Race 11
TROPPO VELOCE may have been in need of her last start in the Non-Black Type SABC Sport Durban Dash. Her form prior to that outing was consistent. The daughter of Rafeef will strip a much fitter horse today. She is back against her own sex and may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
SHIPHOLIA finished 1 length behind SHANTASTIC in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is having her peak run and should be cherry-ripe. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she should run a big race.
SHANTASTIC should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung inwards in the final 200m. She is the class horse in this contest and deserves top weight. If keeping on a straight line, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 12
This is a competitive Merit Rated 90 Handicap to close off the meeting and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BLACK EGRET from the Clinton Binda stable. He stayed on when third over 1160m at Turffontein last time. The son of Rafeef won his only attempt on this course. His good draw of three is a big plus and in this line-up, he may be the one to side with.
YAMADORI won his last start over this C&D at a nice price. The blinkers and tongue-tie have done the trick. Sean Veale retains the ride and with luck from the widest draw, he can follow up with another victory.
B FIFTYTWO finished 2.2 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish
