Race 1
This is a weak work riders Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is RAFA BAY from the Justin Snaith stable. He showed good improvement when fifth over 1000m last time. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the son of Rafeef. He is having his peak run and in this field, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
KING VISERYS has been disappointing in his last two starts. His effort when second over 1200m on 20 April 2024, catches the eye. If finding the form of that race, he should have a say.
COTONOU returns from an 11-week break which may have done her the world of good. Her penultimate run when 2.45 lengths behind the winner over 1200m was fair. She has scope and can improve in this line-up.
Race 2
PENTOLINA’S last three starts have been decent. She stayed on when second over this C&D last time. The daughter of One World is a progressive type and she may be the one to side with.
WHITE WATERS finished 2.15 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. From pole position, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
BELA VISTA was disappointing in her last start over 1000m. It must be noted that Worldcraft has come out and won again since. Her debut effort when second over 1100m was encouraging. She should have no issues with the rise to 1400m and with luck in running, she should be right there.
Race 3
PORT LOUIS is better than his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Two of his three career victories have come over this distance. On best form shown, he can return to winning ways.
WE’RE JAMMING finished 0.4 lengths behind ZOOMIE last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If getting away to a clean start, he can return to best form.
ZOOMIE’S last two starts have been moderate. He has won once and finished second once from four starts over this distance. In this field, he cannot be ignored.
Race 4
LANDOFTHERISINGSUN showed good improvement when third over this C&D last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished second has come out and won since. The son of Danon Platina is a progressive type and may be the one to beat.
ARBITRATION ran an encouraging race on debut over 1200m. He was green in running, but finished off his race nicely. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He will love the rise to 1400m and should make the natural progression.
MR BELVEDERE finished 0.95 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 5
FAIRFIELD was slow into stride over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish second. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If getting away to a clean start, she can go one better.
CHARLOTTE BRONTE’S last two starts have been fair. The slight concern is the drop back to 1400m. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber has plenty of scope and she is one of the leading contenders.
JET TO THE SUN finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She will strip a much fitter horse.
Race 6
STEINBECK finished 2.25 lengths behind KELP FOREST last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is having his second run after a rest and should strip much fitter. He jumps from a good draw of three and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
KELP FOREST is a winner of his last two starts over this C&D. He quickened up well and won with a ton in hand last time. Grant van Niekerk retains the ride and he can notch up the hat-trick.
RADICCHIO stayed on when fourth over 1600m last time. Two of his three career victories have come over this C&D. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and the combination merit healthy respect.
Race 7
FUTURE VARIETY has top recent form lines to his credit. He rallied late when second behind Thunderstruck in the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes last time. He returns from a 19-week break which would have done him the world of good. Aldo Domeyer steps back into the saddle and if not in need of this outing, he can notch up his third-career victory.
MEU CAPITANO is a winner of his last three starts. He ran on powerfully when winning the Non-Black Type Winter Sprint last time. He clearly has ability and merits healthy respect.
QUESTIONING finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 8
RIVERSTONE followed up his maiden win with an equally impressive victory over this C&D. He returns from a well-deserved 17-week break which would have done him the world of good. The son of The United States takes a rise in class but he has ability and should be up to the task at hand.
SPEED RACER has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He was slow into stride over 1000m last time and stayed on to finish third. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ESCARPMENT is a winner of his last two starts over this C&D. He received a three-pound penalty for his recent victory. He rises in class but is in a good space and cannot be ignored.
Race 9
IM THE BUZZ finished 0.5 lengths behind ROYAL LYTHAM last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Robert Khathi retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
GRUE OF ICE finished 0.6 lengths behind ROYAL LYTHAM in the race referred to above. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should also turn the form around.
ROYAL LYTHAM was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a two-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber is in a good space and merits obvious inclusion
