DIWALI ROCKET showed massive improvement when third in his last start over 1600m on this course. He stayed on nicely at the finish that day. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The blinkers have done the trick and he should be the one to beat.
BACCHUS ran a fair race on debut over 1200m at the Vaal. The son of Master Of My Fate would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a threat.
MILAN’S WORLD finished 2.25 lengths behind the second choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 2
RODEO DRIVE showed good pace before getting caught late in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship. She was an impressive winner of her penultimate run over 1000m at the Vaal. The daughter of The United States has plenty of class and she should take a power of beating.
POINTER finished 1.75 lengths behind FORCE EIGHT last time. She is 6kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
FORCE EIGHT showed good speed when winning her last start over this C&D. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination merit obvious inclusion.
Race 3
BJORN IRONSIDE was super-impressive when winning his maiden at the third time of asking, over this C&D. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and he looks to be above average. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
PISTOL PETE should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was steadied and switched for running room at the 200m mark last time. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts on this course. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WOLF MOUNTAIN showed good speed when winning his maiden over 1100m last time. He is a progressive type and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
THERES A LIGHT stayed on when second over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. Raymond Danielson takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
GOLD FEVER showed very good improvement in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is a progressive type and if getting away to a clean start, he can feature.
BATTLE OFTHE BULGE is an unraced son of Lancaster Bomber from the Mike and Adam Azzie stable with Muzi Yeni in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Mucho Dinero and Snapscan. If not too green in running, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 5
KEY WORKER has produced two decent efforts to date. She stayed on at the finish over 1600m last time, but found one too good in the form of Olivia’s Way. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and in this field, she may be the one to side with.
MARY READ stayed on when second over this C&D last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is drawn wide in barrier 13 but she gets the services of Piere Strydom who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
DOITWITHDIAMONDS returns from a 20-week break and is having her first run for the Tony Peter stable. If not in need of this outing, she should have good improvement to come.
Race 6
SILVANO’S SONG may not have seen out the 2400m last time. He was not beaten far when fourth in his penultimate run over this distance on the Inside course. The son of Silvano finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. He has dropped to a competitive rating and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
STREWN SKY followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts on this course. With a bit of luck in running, he should be involved at the finish.
VESUVIO finished 3.15 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 7
CHASING HAPPINESS showed good speed when winning her last start over 1200m on the Inside course. She won her only attempt over this distance. The daughter of Rafeef is the stable elect with Gavin Lerena in the saddle and she may be the one to side with.
TROMPIE was in need of his last start over this C&D. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili which will assist his cause.
KARANGETANG is the stable companion of the top choice. He is better than his last two starts as he had excuses. Two of his three career victories have come on this course and he should be involved.
Race 8
MASTER CASPER followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He showed good speed that day and fought hard all the way to the line. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is the stable elect with Gavin Lerena aboard and should give his older rivals a run for their money.
CITYSCAPE showed good speed when winning her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. She has no issues with the drop to 1000m and can follow up.
IN THE ETHER’S last two starts have been fair. Three of her five career victories have come over this distance. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off her back and she can finish in the placings
