Race 1 

This is a weak work riders Maiden Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MESSALINA from the Corne Spies stable. She ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. The 1500m should be the ideal distance for her and in this field, she can shed her maiden tag.

CHICAGO LASS showed good improvement in her last start over 1600m, under this work rider. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

AMBITIOUS LADY was in need of her stable debut over this distance. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Chamu Mabaya is booked to ride and she should have improvement to come.

Race 2

FENNEC FOX won a good race in her last start over this C&D. Despite jumping outwards at the start, she showed good pace and kept finding all the way to the line. She received a six-pound penalty for that victory. She does take on male company but takes a drop in class and can follow up.

THE NAVY LARK followed up her maiden victory with a good fourth-place finish over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. She won her maiden over this distance at the Vaal. It is encouraging that Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and she is one of the leading contenders.

INAFIX ran a fair race in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He takes a drop in class and Calvin Habib may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 3

MO MENT showed good improvement in his first start for the Brett Webber stable. The son of Royal Mo would have come on from the run. Jeffrey Syster retains the ride and if confirming his recent improvement, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

BREATH OF MAGIC was a tad disappointing in his last start as he took no interest in running. He has finished second twice and third twice from eight starts on this course. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of him.

LIGHTINTHESTORM has shown improvement in his last two starts, the latest of which was over 1400m on the Standside course. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and he should give his older rivals a run for their money.

Race 4

KITTYBOYS GIRL finished 0.35 lengths behind LINGANOMORE last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Admiral Kitten tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She will be mowing down the frontrunners.

LINGANOMORE stayed on when third over 2000m on the Polytrack last time. She drops to the mile and if finding the form of her penultimate run, she should pose a threat.

GIMME THE FLAME set the pace over this distance last time and tried hard all the way to the line. She is having her peak run today and with the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili, she should be hard to peg back.

Race 5

FIFTH OF JULY showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the final 600m. He will strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and if keeping on a straight line, he should be competitive.

FLAG BEARER is better than his last start over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course. He has won once and finished second twice from 11 starts over this distance. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be right there at the finish.

GUY ALEXANDER’S last two starts under Kabelo Matsunyane have been good. The widest draw is the obvious concern and with luck in running, he should earn another cheque.

Race 6

NUCLEAR FORCE finished 0.25 lengths behind KAKIEBOS last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He won his only attempt over this C&D. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should go one better.

KAKIEBOS fought hard for her last victory over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she should have no issues with the rise to 2600m. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

BATTLEOFBARBERTON won a good race when shedding his maiden tag last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He takes on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

SPARKLING JUBILEE won a game race in her last start over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She would have come on from the run and should have more to come.

SOUTHERN STYLE challenged strongly in her last start, but found one too good in the form of Golden Aspen. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and she can go one better.

CERULEAN DANCER was an easy winner of her last start over 1600m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack. Her record over this distance is a concern but she is in a good space and cannot be ignored.

Race 8

RED CARPET GIRL has decent recent form lines to her name. She raced from just off the pace over this distance last time and stayed on to finish third. She is back against her own sex and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, she may be the one to side with.

LADY ELLIOT stayed on when fourth over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She has cracked a good draw of four and despite her big mass of 62kgs, she should pose a threat.

TWICE AS WILD tired late over 1450m last time. She has won twice and finished third twice from six starts over this C&D. She does have the early gate speed to overcome her wide draw and may be hard to peg back
