Race 1
OMBUDSMAN showed good improvement when second over 1100m at the Vaal last time. He showed good speed before getting outrun late by Blaze A Way. The fitting of the blinkers did the trick. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he can go one better.
AIGON SUZIE flew up late when second over 1160m on the Standside course. She is a progressive type and if jumping on terms, she should give the males a run for their money.
LETS PLAY POKER took the lead at the 200m mark last time, but found one too good in the form of Breath Of Magic. He will be at peak fitness for this outing and is one of the leading contenders.
Race 2
ICONIC WINTER produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. She was slow into stride and finished her race off strongly. She would have come on from her first outing and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
AUTUMN VAR showed good speed over 1000m last time, but was outrun late by Salenio Peninsula. She should have no issues with the rise to 1200m and should pose a massive threat.
LINE IN THE SKY finished 0.4 lengths behind the second choice on debut. The daughter of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement.
Race 3
RED LEGEND ran a good race when third over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He was slow into stride, but finished off his race strongly. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and he may be the one to side with.
CHILI BOMB stayed on when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. He will love the rise to 1450m and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
TWELVE OCLOCK HIGH was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1200m at the Vaal. He finished 0.9 lengths behind the second choice on debut. He has scope and cannot be ignored.
Race 4
TODOQUE showed very good improvement when third over 1160m on the Standside course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1450m. She is back in Maiden Company and may be the one to beat.
FAR REACHING fought hard when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. She does have an awkward draw of eight but gets the services of Keagan de Melo who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
EMBLEM OF THE SUN finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights and may battle to turn the form around.
Race 5
RAISEAHALLELUJAH is better than his last two starts in KZN suggest. He has won twice and finished second once from six starts on this course. He is the class horse in the race and on best form shown, he is the horse to beat.
TWENTY DRACHMA’S was touched off over this C&D last time. It must be noted that Vesuvio has come out and won again since. He is in a good space and can go one better.
PRIME EXAMPLE showed good signs of a form return last time. He finished second in his only C&D attempt. With luck in running, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
FRENCH IMPACT got up late when winning his last start over this C&D. He returns from a well-deserved 12-week break. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if fit, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
COMING IN HOT ran a good race when third over 1000m on the Standside course last time. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. If confirming his recent improvement, he should pose a threat.
SAIL THE SKY found betting support when winning his last start over 1400m on the Standside course. The drop to 1200m is a slight concern but he cannot be ignored. He is carded to race on 8 August 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 7
SOLDIER’S EYE ran a fair race when fourth over 1600m on the Standside course last time. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is back in Handicap Company and with a bit of luck from the widest draw, she can return to winning ways.
THAT’S MY BABY is better than her last two starts suggest. She has won over this C&D previously. On best form shown, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
DUENNA stayed on when second over this C&D last time. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. From pole position, she must be included in all bets.
Race 8
PRINCESS ILARIA was running on when third over 1600m at the Vaal last time. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
DOITWITHDIAMONDS tried hard when second over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Gimmefabulous. She is clearly in a good space and may be hard to peg back.
COURAGEOUS finished 4.25 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned. She jumps from a good draw of three and can finish in the money
