Race 1

FRANCILIEN produced an eye-catching debut effort over this C&D. She was green in running but finished off her race strongly. The daughter of What A Winter would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should take a power of beating.

LINE IN THE SKY ran a good race on debut over 1000m at Turffontein. The daughter of Danon Platina would have come on from the run and should love the rise to 1200m. She is carded to race on 15 August 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

POTATO SALAD ran a fair race on debut over this C&D. She returns from a lengthy 54-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and if not in need of this outing, she should make the natural improvement.

Race 2

This is a weak Maiden Plate and one of the first timers could come to the fore. BLIZZARD SNOW is a daughter of Erupt from the Tony Peter stable with Calvin Habib in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including The Mauritian and Slalom Queen. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other first timers.

MUSICAL SCORE is a son of Oratorio from the Lucky Houdalakis stable with Gavin Lerena in the irons. If not in need of this outing, he should give a good account of himself.

ASIAN DELIGHT has shown improvement in his last two starts with the blinkers fitted. The son of Bezrin has scope and may be the first raced runner past the post.

Race 3

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is QUELLO CHE from the Corne Spies stable. She ran a fair race when fourth over 1500m on the Classic course last time. The daughter of Querari gets the services of apprentice Trent Mayhew who takes the 2kgs off her back. If seeing out the 2000m, she can shed her maiden tag in this field.

SILKY JET has shown some improvement since the 10-week break. She is having her peak run today and would not be a shock winner.

PLUM BLOSSOM was well beaten into third over 2400m last time. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

THE CANE TRAIN set the pace over 1800m at Turffontein last time before getting caught late by Dual Prophecy. The son of William Longsword tries the 2000m for the first time. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be hard to peg back.

QUELIMANE finished 2.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

HIGH QUEUE has decent recent form lines to his credit. The son of Master Of My Fate should love the step up to 2000m. With a bit of luck from his wide draw of ten, he should be competitive.

Race 5

JOHN WICK ran a good race when second over this distance at Turffontein last time. He showed good pace but found one too good in the form of Secret Chord. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and he can go one better.

COMMANDER OF ALL is the stable companion of the top choice. He stayed on when third over 1200m on this course last time. If not too far out of his ground at the halfway mark, he should fight out the finish.

MUNCHKIN is better suited to this distance as he has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts. He runs well for Craig Zackey and on best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 6

MICKE’S BOMB has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena keeps faith in the ride and the removal of the blinkers over the extra distance on offer, may do the trick.

ACROSS THE POND rallied late when second over 1500m on this course last time. She takes on older rivals but is in a good space and should be one of the leading contenders.

VOLARE E MAMBO has consistent form lines to her credit. She has won once and finished second once from three starts over this distance. The daughter of Mambo In Seattle must be included in all bets.

Race 7

GIMMEACHOICE stayed on when second over this C&D last time. He takes a drop in class this afternoon. Despite his big mass of 62kgs, he should be too good for this field.

MOCHA FRAPPE has fair recent form lines to his name. He has won once, finished third once and fourth once from as many starts on this course. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

BREATH OF MAGIC ran a fair race in his post-maiden effort over 1800m at Turffontein. He takes a drop in class and with Muzi Yeni retaining the ride, he can feature.

Race 8

FREE IN SEATTLE may not have seen out the 1800m last time. Her penultimate run when third over 1500m on this course was eye-catching. She should be ideally suited to the straight mile and is the horse to beat.

TWOSTEP QUEEN finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

GINGER DELIGHT finished 0.5 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the business end. She has plenty of scope and merits obvious inclusion
