Fairview on Wednesday, tricky looking card, will play around these 3.

Race 3 Royal Missy at 7/2. Holds three of her rivals on 12th June run on the poly, consistent performer
Race 4 Richardthefearless at 5/1. Down in class, C&D winner
Race 5 Palancar at 33/10. Won nicely from a wide draw last time out, rise in ratings looks fair and can give another bold show.

Looking ahead to the Vaal on Thursday, 3 picks for me.

Race 6 Knowmore at 5/1. Two good efforts since maiden win, regular jockey back on board, drawn poorly again but plenty of winners from previous runs and still scope for improvement after just 8 runs
Race 7 Fish Hawk at 9/2. Has a wide draw to overcome but collateral form lines and a dropping MR suggest she can go close here
Race 9 Elusive Red at 9/4. 320 days since last win but some decent efforts of late, mark is dropping Craig Zackey up from a good draw

I usually just scan the breeding of unraced runners to see if anything jumps out from past good horses over the years. Race 2 Tabloid is 40/1, if I’m not mistaken related to the top sprinter Viva La Var, and the Var breeding line from Var sire Talk of the Town. So if the genes work out he could have a lot of pace, and this appie on board is the best 4kg claimer on the scene at moment.

can’t exactly get hurt at this sort of price.

Vaal Thursday:
Race 1 - Lady Enid (18/1) - Tough workriders race with all of Surreal Song (17/10), Penny's Choice (15/4) and Astrophile (19/20) having decent winning chances on form. Workrider Mosia hits the podium more often than not, I'm willing to go e/w with a top 3 place potentially returning 17/10.

Race 2 - Autograph (7/1 E/W) showed massive improvement last two runs and rates value. Respect for the top 3 in the betting who all return from a break and could potentially be caught out late. 12/10 for a top 3 place.

Race 3 - Open. Royale Jacket (16/10) back up in trip and gets the services of Keegan de Melo, which might be key. Midnight Show (26/10) third run after a rest. Best run was with Chase Maujean up. Mirum (20/1) can finish in the top 4 on a repeat of her debut run when only 2.4 lengths behind Royale Jacket. Top 4 place 29/20.

Race 4
-Empress of Peace (33/10) bumped a couple of good horses in her last two run and on ratings should just about win. Sword Of Light (39/20), from a better draw, could turn it around with Elisa Mbali. Northern European (9/2) comment on both starts over extra distance "never went on".

Race 5 - The Mightiest (5/1) is 4kgs better off with Bay Empire (4/1) for a 0.5l beating. Swingers with Ubermensch (9/2) who has been racing against stronger of late and is trying 1600m for the first time.

Race 7 - Agree with Chris on Fishhawk (5/1). Swingers with Trip Of Faith (33/20) who won well last time out, with 3 winners coming out of that formline.

Race 8 - On A Jet Plane (8/1) 1 win and 3 top 4 f-inishes in 5 runs over this distance. Trainer/Jockey combo also in form with 2 wins and 3 places from last 5 runners. Value bet of the day for me.

Race 9 - Hail Mary E/W on Stage One (40/1). Nothing to write home about, but hints of form at this track.

Jacques I'm hoping you backed Mirium for a win as well, 20/1 well played, also On a Jet Plane and some more places, GReat stuff

Double Header On Friday, both on turf unless it hoses down

Fairview

Race 2 Lady Of Fate at 4/1, light mass in a wide open betting heat, running on last time over shorter and now reverts to turf
Race 4 Carnival at 5/4. Took the eye in winning second start and that formline has been franked.
Race 5 Silva City at 2/1. In and out performer but has a good record over tack and trip
Race 6 Stars In Heaven at 11/2. Running well on poly in stronger races lately but 3 of 4 career wins have come on turf and drawn 1 today

Greyville

Race 4 Jazz Festival each way at 14/1. May have needed latest when backed and ran 2nd, wide draw and long losing sequence to overcome but likeable veteran can still earn a cheque
Race 5 Vaans Spirit at 5/2. May have needed latest when running on second, nicely drawn at 2 and Lerena an interesting jockey booking
Race 6 Malmesbury Missile at 8/1. Has been chasing home some of the best, back down in trip and 2 wins from 4 over C&D bodes well
Race 7 Grand Appeal at 7/1. Needs to bounce back but eased in grade, only 2 wins were on turf at this track

Hi Chris. Didn't play Mirum for the win as well as I thought it would be tough for him to finish in front of both Midnight Show and Royale Jacket. Stupid in hindsight as he had more scope for improvement than Royale Jacket but the de Melo booking scared me off. Empty out should Royale Jacket go to Greyville for another run on the poly in the near future. Sure de Melo will retain the ride.

Nice one with Elusive Red in the last. He, On A Jet Plane and Lady Elliot all came from the Satyagraha formline on July 30. Hope some took a chance and caught the last double with On A Jet Plane and Elusive Red.

On A Jet Plane saved the day yesterday after a few rough results. The Pick 3 of races 2 to 4 returned a massive R33919.70 on the tote and roughly 85000/1 on their SP prices.

Having a look at todays cards now.

Fairview - Tricky card as lots of these runners would have been waiting to finally race on turf again. Treat with caution.

Race 1 - Witching Hour (7/1) - 2nd run after a rest a concern but credible form on turf. Stable hasn't had a winner for 4 months. Placed behind the likes of Littlemissmillion, Drumnadrochit and Merryweather a year ago when still racing in Gauteng. MR down 16 points. Good last run over 1400m on the poly. E/W Bet

Race 2 - Capranica (11/2) - Held by 3 and 5 on previous run when fancied by the stable. Can improve today on the turf.

Race 5 - Not much at the weights between East Coast Girl (6/1) and Wishes And Dreams (4/1). Both down in trip. Preference to East Coast Girl who is also way down in class and tired over the longer trips of late. Silvan Mistress (13/2) all 4 wins on the turf. Top weight and 2nd run after a break against her. Seems to need further nowadays.

Race 6 - Also like a bit of Stars in Heaven (6/1). Apprentice Marx-Jacobson has finished 2nd on him before so will look to go one better. Perfect Impact (29/20) heavily fancied. Two facile wins on the poly and has decent earlier WC form over this distance including a 2nd to recent winner Miami Summer. He has had subsequent multiple winners in the form of Klein Karoo, Sky Pilot and Trip To Camelot behind him in his WC runs. Looks to be one on the up. Box EX 1x8

Race 7 - Greek Heiress (7/2) good turf form and seems to be enjoying the Eastern Cape. A repeat of her last run on turf back in May, when narrowly beaten by Hop Hop Spinnekop, should see her in the winners box. Small e/w on Arashi (25/1). Hasn't shown much since relocating, but placed behind the likes of Golden Palm, King Harold, Rachel Wall and Vamanos when still racing in Gauteng.

Race 8 - Difficult to go against Masterofthebaroque (17/20) based on how well he won last time. Osmium (7/2) is guaranteed to get the trip and holds a few in the field. Osmium Top 2 places (23/20)

Greyville Turf

Race 1 - I've got all of Bella Gallico, Arkadin and Hadrian's Wall as horses to follow. Arkadin (8/1 win 14/10 top 3 places) the e/w value. I'd rather take the top 3 places with him, than backing Bella Gallico (1/1) at these odds for a win. Hadrian's Wall (13/1) overraced and got carried out last time, she can only improve if settled.

Race 2 - Crimson Typhoon (18/10) three very good runs over distance. De Melo should have the run of the race from draw one. Surprised she isn't closer to even money.

Race 3 - Captain West (4/1) down in class. Finished close up to the likes of Jet Force and Zeitz over a mile. Tries this trip for the first time but should get it being out of One World. Continentalexpress (9/1) last seen in the Gold Cup. Seems to prefer further these days but won his only start over C&D.

Race 4 - Record High (16/1) down in class. Nice e/w bet from draw 1. Gunboat (14/1) raids from Gauteng and the stables only runner this evening. Tries the distance for the first time. Many with chances here so back whatever you fancy  . Small SW 1x2 will pay bombs in this big field.

Race 6 - Go Grayson Go (15/1) last seen when beaten 0.3 lengths by Zeitz over 1600m on Gold Cup day. Well drawn, down in trip and light weight to carry. Worth an e/w with Rachel Venniker abroad.

Race 7 - Kaapse Klopse (28/10) all 3 his wins have been over 1200m. Just needs to confirm his poly form on the grass.

thnks guys great thoughts as always. will try 2 -

next race twilight warrior @ 14/1 ew, done well at course before and murray back on board is an interesting booking.

race 7 grand appeal @ 5/1 ew, been some money for this one and odendaal yard runners when backed do tend to show up. got this top little appie on board, won't be a 4kg claimer in a few wins time so take him when you can.

Might no longer be a 4kg claimer by end of tonight the way this kid is going! Wins on 2x25/1 shots and now a 16/1, so definitely feel like I’ve missed out as he’s been one I’ve been following closely and commenting on for some time. Top jock in making, rode the pros to sleep in last race.

Great call Twighlight Warrior South and what a day / night for that young man, I shall certainly pay more attention when he is carded to ride.

Saturday Turffontein

Race 4 Trompe L’oeil at 11/10. Up in class but still scope for further improvement, would hold Time Is Precious on a line through Sergeant Soqrat
Race 5 Pointer at 7/1. On a long losing streak but MR has been falling and also down in class today
Race 6 Winter Rainfall at 33/10. One of 3 from the yard, had been consistent in KZN, would have needed last run which was stable debut
Race 7 Max The Magician at 6/1. Below par last time, consistent prior to that holding a few of these , draw of 1 a big plus on inside track

Great calls last night Southpaw. Grand Appeal so unlucky, could have easily been 2/2 for you. Agree apprentice Mosaheb going places. We missed out indeed, I went and had another look at That's My Baby's form. Beaten under 4l by Quickstepgal and runner up to Tulip Fields over C&D not that long ago so surely had the credentials. Carried only 48kgs. Yes it was a strong field, personally should have paid more attention to this. Lesson learned! Galactic Beauty and Hurricane Flight had massive weight swings in their favor and could have been picked up by very shrewd punters and form studiers. Both certainly were worth an e/w bet. We soldier on and learn from this!

Turffontein Inside

Race 1 - Shining Sun (4/10) was fancied to win when finishing 3rd last time out. He was very green that day, over raced and got cut into. He should get it right today, but odds very short. Forever Canford (4/1 win 3/10 top 3 place) placed behind two horses rated for bigger things by their respective stables in his last two runs. He gives SS 2kgs but should be right there should the favorite fluff his lines. The Janse v Vuuren stable has a line through Camillo Cavour so will know what to expect. Of the first timers, Brief Encounter (3/1) is by Buffalo Bill Cody and Jet Platino (20/1) is a half brother to Diwali Rocket and Juliet Tango.

Race 2 - Without Remorse (7/1 e/w) has some good runs over 1200m including a 1.5l second to Trip Of Faith who won a MR 90 on Thursday. Open race with all of Rafeef's Queen, New York Groove and Thorn Bird having chances.

Race 3 - Whatsdamatterwithyou (11/10) had three subsequent winners behind him, when winning first run in open company. Tries the bend for the first time.

Race 4 - Trompe L'Oeil (23/20) with Chris. Exacta with It's Personal (4/1) who has never missed a stake cheque in 9 runs over 1000m

Race 6 - Bright and Brazen (17/2) all 3 wins have been over C&D. Blizzard Snow (9/1) two wins and a runner-up spot in 3 runs over C&D. Holds a few in this field at the weights. SW/Box EW 3X5

Race 9 - Diesel's Shadow (14/1 e/w)
has a small swing at the weights with favorite Guerilla Warfare (28/10). Worth a chance

Race 5 -

Yo South, Lerena treble, 2 wins and place 3rd, almost came off for you, your fav appy in action Sunday too. I'm battling this week but soldier on to Scottsville with these

Race 3 Reign Man at 5/1, just the one run and was green, will improve for that and appreciate the step up in trip, draw 1 another plus
Race 4 Lady Sabrina at 16/1, on a long losing streak but hasn’t been running badly, down in class and with an in form 4kg claimer on top
Race 5 Vihaan’s Web at 33/20, has been running in stronger, will come on for last run when returning from a break
Race 6 Navajo Dancer at 7/2, oh so long since last win but honest performer who always gives his all and now back on turf.
Race 7 She’s A Machine each way at 14/1. Has not run on turf for almost a year but has decent form on this surface against stronger and looks a value price
