The first major of the year is behind us and the action moves to South Carolina this week for the RBC Heritage hosted at the Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head. We select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.
THE COURSE
The Harbour Town Golf Links plays to a par 71 and approaching the small greens from the right place in the fairway is important so the length is always an advantage, driving accuracy and good iron play is probably more important this week.

It will be interesting to see how those who contended at the US Masters go this week as it was in my opinion a more draining event than normal, particularly the first couple of days with the wind blowing hard. Personally I will be putting a greater emphasis on course form than on current form when finalising my staking plan and I am going to take on the likes of Scheffler and others who were in the mix on the back 9 at Augusta National.
SELECTIONS:
Suggested Bet: Patrick Cantlay each way at 14/1
Cantlay had a solid enough Masters, finishing 22nd and there were times he threatened to burst into contention only to fade away. That means that he didn’t play the weekend under immense pressure and that could count him in good stead this week as he returns to a course where he has had 4 Top 3’s in 7 starts, including a 3rd place finish last year and a runner-up in 2022.
Suggested Bet: Brian Harman each way at 55/1
Harman missed the cut last week at the Masters, but prior to that had put in some solid performances with 3 Top 25’s including a runner-up finish in his previous 4 starts. Harman has become a proven winner since winning the Open Championship last year and his course form here has been progressively improving and he had a 13th place finish in 2021 and 7th place finish last year.
I don’t think that the missed cut last week is necessarily a bad thing as he will come into this Tournament fresher than many of his opponents.
Suggested Bet: Emiliano Grillo each way at 125/1
Grillo is another man who ticks the course form box with a 7th place finish last year and a 2nd place finish in 2021. Those were though on either side of two missed cuts so he does tend to be a bit hit and miss, but then again we are getting 125/1 about his chances.
I know a few punters who fancied Grillo to go well last week at the Masters, but he had a poor Tournament, although prior to that had been in decent nick. Let’s hope he comes out firing in this one.
Suggested Bet: Russell Henley each way at 40/1
“Gun to my head” Henley is my top pick this week. He disappointed at the Masters last week where he never contended and finished up 38th. The week before that he was 4th so he has good recent form and he has some decent course form too with a Top 20 last year and a Top 10 in 2021. Like Grillo he does tend to be a bit hit and miss at the course and he has had 3 missed cuts in his last 5 starts as well. I think he will be disappointed with his Masters showing and ready to go close this week.
