Race 1

RIPPLE EFFECT ran a good race when second in the Listed Ruffian Stakes last time. She showed good speed, but was caught late by Mrs Geriatrix. The daughter of Erupt looks to have ability and in this field, she should go one better.

CALLMEWHENUNEEDME won a good race over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. She finished 2 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate outing. She is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

KOMESANS PASSION may not have seen out the 1450m last time. Her first two career outings over this distance were encouraging. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and the combination can finish in the placings.

Race 2

ROSE TINTED showed good improvement when winning her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She showed good speed and fought hard to hold all challengers at bay. The daughter of Flower Alley is a progressive type and being the only winner in this contest, she can follow up.

HEIRLOOM made the trip to KZN last time. She showed good pace over the 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, but found one too good in the form of Epic View. She will enjoy the return to 1000m and is one of the leading contenders.

STATESMAN is an unraced son of Gimmethegreenlight from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners Attenborough and Al Sakeet. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers in this contest.

Race 3

ZUZAN raced from a handy position over 2000m on the Standside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Tabebuia. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he should have no issues with the rise to 3000m. The son of Admiral Kitten takes a drop in class and can notch up his fifth career victory.

AFRAAD won a very good race over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course. The 6yo gelding is in a good space and should have no stamina issues. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

GREAT AFFAIR finished 3.75 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 4

RADU showed good improvement in her last start over 1400m on the Standside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will be at home over the mile and with Piere Strydom booked to ride, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

BROADLANDS is the stable companion of the top choice. She has decent consistent form lines to her credit. She challenged strongly last time, but was outrun by Beguiling. The daughter of Silvano may be rewarded for consistency.

KEEP THE FORT was disappointing in her last start over 1400m. Her penultimate run when third over this distance was encouraging. She jumps from pole position and the cheekpieces will keep her mind on the task at hand.

Race 5

FREE MOVEMENT had to be steadied at the 1200m mark last time, but the manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. The son of Master Of My Fate meets the right field this afternoon and Ryan Munger may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

US OPEN stayed on at the finish over this distance at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Knights Table. He finished 2.65 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

PRIVILEGE was in need of his comeback effort over 1160m. It must be noted that Aussenkehr has come out and won again since. He steps up to the mile and will strip much fitter.

Race 6

FUR BABY ran a good race when third in a Graduation Plate over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course last time. The daughter of Ideal World takes a drop in class and from pole position, she should give the males a run for their money.

BATIK moved up well over 1400m at the Vaal last time, but was outrun late by Calibre Crest. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Rafeef is in a good space and is one of the leading contenders.

MIX THE MAGIC raced from a prominent position over 1200m on this course last time, but found one too good in the form of Coldhardstare. JP van der Merwe retains the ride and the daughter of Flying The Flag will be staying on at the business end.

Race 7

ROSE FOR TRIPPI was not disgraced when fifth in the Non-Black Type Bauhinia Handicap last time. She was slow into stride, but stayed on at the business end. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She has her first run on this course and if suited to the turn, she can notch up her third career victory.

MOONSHININGTHROUGH is better than her last two starts suggest. She returns from a 13-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won twice from three starts on this course. If not in need of the run, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

ROZARA showed signs of needing her comeback run over this distance on the Standside course last time. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this C&D. She will strip much fitter and must be included in all bets.

Race 8

SMITH AND WESSON showed good speed when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. Marco van Rensburg retains the ride and he can follow up.

COVERT OPERATOR stayed on when fourth over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. Craig Zackey does duty and the combination merit healthy respect.

LAETITIA’S ANGEL finished 3.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 9

NO TIME IS TAKEN showed some signs of a form return in her last start over 1200m on this course. She showed good speed that day, but was outrun. The blinkers and tongue-tie seem to have done the trick and if confirming her recent improvement, she should be hard to peg back. BEADED GOWN has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She has dropped to a competitive rating and must be included in all bets.

CONVOCATION won a good race when shedding her maiden tag over 1200m on this course last time. She showed good speed and found extra where it matters most. She does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand
