Race 1

SANDRINGHAM SUMMIT produced an eye-catching debut effort over this C&D. He was unlucky not to have won that day as his saddle slipped in running. It must be noted that Lucky Lad has come out and won twice since. He would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he can go one better.

BARBARESCO ran a good race on debut over this C&D against winners. He lost a length leaving the start and despite hanging in the closing stages, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

AMPERSAND was a tad disappointing in his last start after producing an encouraging debut run over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. With a bit of luck in running, he can finish in the first three.

Race 2

ROSE TINTED followed up her maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1000m on the Inside course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will enjoy the extra 160m on offer. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo which will help her chances.

STORMY CHOICE finished 0.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

WOMEN OF FAME was a beaten odds-on favourite in her last start, but was reported to be fatigued. Her first three career outings were promising. If putting her best foot forward, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 3

PROPHET should have finished closer to the winner in the Listed WSB Sledgehammer last time as he had to be eased at the 200m mark. He is a horse loaded with ability and Piere Strydom may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

PYROMANIAC is better than his last start in the Listed Europa Point Drum Star Handicap. His penultimate run in the Listed Wolf Power 1600 was eye-catching. If jumping on terms, he should be one of the leading contenders.

RAFFLES stayed on when third over 1500m on the Inside course last time. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the rise to 1800m. He carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and can feature.

Race 4

ARCHIMIDES should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the closing stages. He is having his second run after a rest and will strip much fitter. Keagan de Melo takes the ride and in this type of field, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

CELTIC RUSH‘S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. With a bit of luck from his wide draw of 12, he should go close to winning.

TOTAL SURRENDER is an unraced son of Flower Alley from the Lucky Houdalakis stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He is related to seven-time winner Second Base. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 5

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is HEART OF ETERNITY from the Erico Verdonese stable. She has been disappointing in her last two starts. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since. She is bred to enjoy the rise to 1400m and on best form shown, she should win a race of this nature.

COUNT YOUR CHANCES ran a fair race in her last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. She tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. With a bit of luck in running, she should throw out a challenge to the top choice.

TSITSIKAMMA PEARL showed signs of needing her last start over 1450m on the Inside course. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick and she should strip much fitter. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off her back and can place.

Race 6

SUPREME WARRIOR ran a decent race when third in the Grade 2 Senor Santa Stakes last time. He is drawn on the right side of the course and despite carrying top weight, he should return to winning ways.

UNDER YOUR SPELL lacked extra late in the Grade 1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen and should give the males a run for their money.

CLEAVER GREENE produced four good efforts before given a lengthy 57-week break. He clearly has plenty of ability and carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs. If not in need of this outing, he can run into the money.

Race 7

SHANGANI finished 0.25 lengths behind NEBRAAS last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He won his only start over this distance, three runs ago. He is having his peak run today and should notch up his ninth career victory.

NEBRAAS was not disgraced when fifth in the Grade 1 WSB Premier’s Champions Challenge last time. He won a good race in the Grade 3 WSB Caradoc Gold Cup in his penultimate start. The 6yo gelding is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

ARUMUGAM finished 3.25 lengths behind the second selection in the race referred to above. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 8

CIVIL PRINCESS is better than her last start suggests as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She returns from a 12-week break which would have done her the world of good. She is a filly with plenty of scope and with just 54kgs on her back, she can return to winning ways.

MAY QUEEN ran a fair race in her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She raced from just off the pace, but found one too good in the form of Mover And Shaker. She is back against her own sex and is one of the leading contenders.

WINGS OF NIKE has good consistent form lines to her credit. She raced wide in the early stages of her last start, but finished her race off strongly. She always gives of her best and must be included in all bets.

Race 9

SPLENDID SEASON moved up well in her last start over 1200m, but was outrun late. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts on this course. The daughter of What A Winter should have no issues with the drop to 1000m. She has dropped to a competitive rating and with Kaidan Brewer retaining the ride, she may be the one to side with.

SAMOA finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

DANCING DORA is better than her recent form suggests. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in her last start has come out and won since. On best form shown, she is capable of notching up her sixth career victory
