Race 2
BOM BOM took time to find his feet on debut, but the manner in which he finished off his race caught the eye. The son of Ideal World would have gained from the experience and will love the extra distance on offer. With the natural improvement and from pole position, he should take a power of beating.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME ran a fair race on debut against winners. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BROTHERHOODOFMAGIC tired late when fourth over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The son of Willow Magic is a progressive type and from his good draw of three, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
WAR EMPRESS should have finished closer to the winner in her comeback run over this C&D as she hung in the final 300m. She was also reported to be coughing post-race. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. In this field, she should take a power of beating.
COUNT YOUR CHANCES took on male company in her stable debut. Her penultimate run when fourth over 1200m on this course catches the eye. The daughter of Count Dubois may be the horse to fill the exacta spot.
GLITTERFOX ran a decent race in her first run for the Roy Magner stable. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She would have come on from the run and can finish in the placings.
Race 4
CONSTABLE is better than his last start in the Grade 3 WSB Tommy Hotspur Stakes as the jockey reported something to be amiss. His previous three efforts were encouraging. He won his only attempt over this C&D. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen is booked to ride and the 6yo gelding can return to winning ways.
MOVER AND SHAKER was a tad disappointing in the Non-Black Type Gold Rush Sprint. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this distance. He shows good speed in his races and may be hard to peg back
MAY QUEEN is better than her last three starts. She has won twice, finished second once and third three times from eight starts over this C&D. On best form shown, she can give the males a run for their money.
Race 5
VITELLIUS has produced two creditable performances since winning his maiden. The manner in which he finished off his last outing suggests that he will love the rise to 1800m. The son of Pomodoro has plenty of scope and may be the one to side with.
HAZLO GRANDE fought hard for his last victory over this C&D. The son of Erupt takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
LIBECCIO may not have seen out the 2400m in his last start on this course. He meets the right field this afternoon and can finish in the placings.
Race 6
DEFENDER OF RIGHTS was doing her best work late when second over 1400m at Turffontein last time. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. The blinkers have been re-fitted and she takes a drop-in class. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of her.
CONKER THE WORLD was running on when fourth in her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. She is having her peak run and will be cherry-ripe. She too, takes a drop in class and is one of the leading contenders.
WRITTEN IN STONE stayed on when third over this C&D last time. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen retains the ride and if not in need of the run, he should be the first male past the post.
Race 7
STRATOSPHERIC followed up his super-impressive maiden win with an eye-catching victory over this C&D. Despite over racing in the early stages, he quickened up well and drew clear of the opposition. The son of What A Winter makes his Handicap debut and can notch up the hat-trick.
MO JIVE was running on when second over 1100m at Turffontein last time. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and the combination should be competitive.
TRIDENT KING finished 2.25 lengths behind SEQUOIA last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. His best form has been under Muzi Yeni and he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 8
MCEBISI produced a typical second run after a rest last time. His comeback run when third over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course was encouraging. He continues to drop in the ratings and from pole position, is capable of returning to winning ways in this line-up.
NAPOLEON stayed on when third over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
EAGLE ALLEY has finished third in his last two starts, the latest of which was over this distance. He was reported to be coughing post-race. If not too far out of his ground at the halfway mark, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
