RACE 1
SAKURAJIMA makes his local debut and brings fair Gauteng form with him. He gets the tongue-tie fitted for the first time which may do the trick. If settled into his new surroundings, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
UNION ROSE has fair form lines to his name. The manner in which he finished off his penultimate run suggests that he will love the rise to 1400m. If getting away to a clean start, he should be involved at the finish.
WALT WHITMAN should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be steadied at the 500m mark. The son of Canford Cliffs is a progressive type and with luck in running, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 2
KINGDUNDEE was given a peach of a ride when winning the Listed Dahlia Plate, over this C&D. He has been gelded since that outing which may have been what he needed. He is the class horse in this contest and if not in need of the run, he should take a power of beating.
SILVONIAN is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. He has been gelded which may have done the trick. The son of Horizon has ability and is a solid back up for the Gavin Smith stable.
FAMILY LAW finished 4.45 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
RACE 3
TORIX NIGHT showed improvement when third over this distance on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack last time. The son of Vercingetorix is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable and it is encouraging that Richard Fourie is booked to ride. If suited to this course, he can shed his maiden tag.
DUMISANI has good recent form lines to her name. She was running on when second over 1600m last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She will strip a much fitter horse and should give the males a run for their money.
DAWN CLOUD was disappointing in his last start over 1600m. His penultimate run when fifth against winners was eye- catching. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should be involved at the finish.
RACE 4
BEAU KALA has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She returns from a 14-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won once and finished second three times from nine starts over this distance. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili and if fit, she can return to winning ways.
GET IT DONE won a game race in her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She is in a good space and should pose a massive threat.
HUGSANDHIGHFIVES is better than her recent form in KZN. It must be noted that Miss Paget has come out and won again since. The daughter of Master Of My Fate is having her first run for the Gavin Smith stable and good improvement is expected.

Race 5
EVIES FIRST has fair recent form lines to his name. He was reported to be distressed after his last outing. It must be noted that Cruise Control has come out and finished fourth in a Grade 1 since. He has won twice and finished second three times from seven starts over this C&D. He is a horse with ability and Denis Schwarz may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
AUSSENKEHR is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. The 1000m may be on the sharp side for him but he has the ability to fight out the finish.
FIRST ORIGIN was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He showed good speed under today’s 4kgs claiming apprentice and kept finding all the way to the line. The son of What A Winter will be hard to peg back.
Race 6
FUNKY MUSIC finished 0.6 lengths behind INHERIT THE RAIN last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Apprentice Nirvan Nastili is likely to race the 6yo gelding on the speed and he may be hard to peg back.
INHERIT THE RAIN fought hard for his last victory over this distance on the Polytrack. He finished 1.5 lengths behind Slings And Arrows, three runs ago. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
BRENDEN JAMES finished 0.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
RACE 7
THREE ROCKS rallied late when second in her last start on the polytrack, but found one too good in the form of Paris Lass. The daughter of Heavenly Blue is unbeaten from three starts over this C&D. She will love the return to the turf and should notch up her eighth-career victory.
GIMME’S LASSIE finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
LUNA HALO won a good race in her last start over 1600m on the Polytrack. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is not the stable elect but always gives of her best and merits healthy respect.
RACE 8
GUARDING THE WALL is having his first run in the Eastern Cape. It must be noted that Escarpment has come out and won again since. The son of Querari has dropped to a competitive rating and if settled into his new surroundings, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
COASTAL PATH ran a fair race over this C&D last time. It must be noted that Forest Spy has come out and won again since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
RESURGENCE was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the polytrack. He takes on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand
