Race 1
CORRUPT is an unraced son of Erupt from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable and Gavin Lerena is booked to ride. He is related to multiple winners including Zeus and Out Of Your League. If not in need of this outing, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
CHILI BOMB took on winners in his last start over this C&D. He is a progressive type and back in Maiden Company, he should make further improvement.
PIONEER SQUARE hails from the Candice Dawson stable and he is a son of Querari. Philasande Mxoli is booked to ride. He is related to four-time winner William Rufus. If not too green in running, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 2
MASTER CASPER followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He showed good speed and fought hard all the way to the line. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is the stable elect with Gavin Lerena in the saddle and may be the one to side with.
ALMOND SEA was outrun late when third in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery last time. She returns from a well-deserved 14-week break. If fit, she should give the males a run for their money.
CYMRIC is the stable companion of the top choice. He showed good speed in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. On previous form, he should fight out the finish.
Race 3
HEY HEY JULIA was not disgraced when third against winners over this distance on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is back in Maiden Company and may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
KIA KAHA ran a decent race on debut over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
TAKE YOUR PLACE finished strongly when second over this distance on the Inside course last time. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 4
TIGER STORM was in need of his debut effort over this distance at the Vaal. He found betting support that day which suggests that he was showing good work at home. It must be noted that What A Lucy has come out and won again since. The son of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he can win in this field.
LETS PLAY POKER returns from a 14-week break which would have done him the world of good. He finished second in his first two career outings. If not in need of this run, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
TYSON THE BRAVE returns from a lengthy 44-week break. He finished third in both his career efforts on this course. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off his back which will assist his cause.
Race 5
CHESTNUT BOMBER won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He raced from a handy position, moved up well and kept finding all the way to the line. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
OFFICER IN COMMAND’S last start must be ignored as the saddle was reported to have slipped in running. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from six starts over this distance. On best form shown, he should be competitive.
VOLARE E MAMBO is the stable companion of the second choice. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. She has consistent form lines to her credit and merits healthy respect.
Race 6
QUIET REBELLION has fair recent form lines to her name. She was slow into stride over this distance last time and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished third once from three starts over this C&D. If getting away to a clean start from pole position, she can return to winning ways.
DARLING HARBOUR stayed on at the finish over 1800m last time. The blinkers seem to have done the trick. From her good draw of three, she should have more to come.
ZENOBIA’S GOLD ran a fair race over 1500m on the Inside course last time. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts on this course. With luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 7
CHYAVANA has consistent form lines to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was cramped for galloping room at the 200m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won twice and finished second twice from six starts over this C&D. He will strip much fitter and can notch up his seventh-career victory.
FIRE ‘N FLAMES‘ last start must be ignored as he stumbled leaving the start and was reported to be not striding out. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should fight out the finish.
RICHARD THE FIRST has good recent form lines to his name. It is encouraging that Denis Schwarz steps back into the saddle and he cannot be ignored.
Race 8
VELDSKOEN looked a threat in his last start over 1200m but did not go on with the effort. He finished second in his penultimate outing over this C&D. He takes a slight drop in class and if putting his best foot forward, he can return to winning ways.
LONGSWORD was running on when second over 1000m last time. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and if getting away to a clean start, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
BOB stayed on when third over 1000m on this course last time. He finished 4.25 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 9
RISKY BUSINESS has fair consistent form lines to her name. She stayed on when fifth over this C&D last time. The daughter of Querari would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and with a bit of luck in running, she can return to winning ways.
DELLA’S SWORD has good consistent form lines to her name. She was running on too late when third over 1200m on the Inside course last time. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
VAVA VEGAS finished 0.3 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish
